FANTASY CREATURES: Colored Pencils / GHIA Youth Art Class

Learn how to draw goblins, griffins, dragons and monsters in this fun class. Starting with simple shapes, learn how easy it is to develop circles, rectangles, squares and ovals into an exciting selection of fantastical creatures. No class Masters week.

Pottery on the Wheel – Thursday Evenings

Thursdays | 8 Weeks | March 19, 26, April 2, 16, 23, 30, May 7, 14, 2020 | 6 PM to 8:30 PM | Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art

Students will explore ceramic wheelwork and handbuilding techniques in this class. Instruction will be tailored to the individual skill level of each student. Using the wheel as a tool, forms will be thrown, altered and assembled to create various functional vessels of various shapes and forms. Glazing techniques will also be addressed. The supply fee covers 22 ½ pounds of clay, tools, glazes and firing. Students must provide a clean towel each week.

Class will not meet Masters Week (April 9th). Teens welcome!

Spring Clay: Handbuilding Techniques for Youth AGES 7-10

Wednesdays | March 18, 25, April 1, 15, 22, 2020 | 4:30 PM – 6 PM | Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art

Students will develop basic handbuilding techniques like coil and slab while getting creative with ideas. Create your own set of decorative pots, bring your favorite animal to life, and make unique tiles with your own drawing. Class will not meet Masters week.

Weaving: Small Tapestries

Tuesdays | March 17, 24, 31, April 7, 2020 | 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM | Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art

Ever wanted to learn the basics of weaving? Find out what the difference is between weft and warp while designing your own interesting and colorful piece. Develop your skills on a peg loom as you create a small tapestry that can be turned into a wall hanging. Techniques learned in the class can be translated into making other unique pieces on your own.

No class Masters week (April 7th).
