Gertrude Herbert Art Camps – Afternoon Session 6 (Ages 5-14)

The Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art runs multiple camps over the summer!
In the list below you will find 3 AFTERNOON camps that run from July 22nd to July 26th, 2019 from 1 PM to 3 PM each day.
All classes take place at The Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art, on 506 Telfair Street.

PM Session 6: Bracelets, Wallets & More (ages 5-7)
Students will look at the Japanese bracelet making method known as Kumihimo. Kumihimo (koo-mee-hee-mo) means: braided cord. These braids are fast and fun to make. Student will also enjoy a variety of other activities along with bracelet making and will be tailored to their skill level and interests.

PM Session 6: Paint Explosion (ages 8-9)
Students will use nontraditional painting methods to create one of a kind pieces of art in new and inventive ways. This could get messy!

PM Session 6: Ceramics (ages 10 -14)
While discussing their month’s theme, students will work with clay and air dry materials to create a variety of tiles, relief, and/or sculptural works.

50 Minutes of morning stretching, Yoga, and/or free drawing time each day before our official classes get started. (price covers one week M-F session add on)

Lunch Break: $20 /or FREE when signed up for Full Day Morning and Afternoon Classes (all ages 5 -14) 12 PM – 1 PM
Sack lunch and relaxation time in our historic formal dining room. Students must bring their own sack lunch, food is not provided. Free movie time included during lunch break. **This add on is FREE for all students signed up for morning and afternoon class sessions /Full Day Classes. (price covers one week M-F session add on)

Free Form (late pick up): $15 (all ages 5 -14) 3 PM- 3:30 PM
Afternoon Stretching, Yoga, and/or free drawing time each day after our official classes end. (price covers one week M-F session add on)

AM Session 6: Painting and Mixed Media (ages 5-7) 
Techniques in painting and in combining drawing, collage, and experimental materials with painting will be explored as students create artwork during this session.

AM Session 6: Drawing and 2-D Design (ages 8-9) 
Pencil, charcoal, and color media such as oil and soft pastels are among the materials students will use as they explore both non-objective and realistic artistic interpretation of subject matter.

AM Session 6: Sculpture and 3-D Design (ages 10-14) 
Techniques in freestanding sculpture and relief designs that are meant to be seen from the front will be explored during this session. A variety of techniques such as papier mâché, assemblage, and subtractive and plaster casting will be explored.

Aiken Center for the Arts Summer Art Studio (Ages 11-14)

Students will discover art through exploration of their favorite art mediums in a studio setting. Taught by artists working in their area of expertise, full or half-day programs allow participants to try different mediums in the mornings and afternoons.

Week Theme: Textiles and Painting

Textiles: Learn to use a loom to weave functional and decorative art. Work together on a large installation in the main gallery. Explore dying fabrics with natural resources.

Painting: Create colorful paintings of real objects using acrylic paint. Topics include color mixing, color theory, and mark making techniques.

Aiken Center for the Arts Summer Art Camp (Ages 7-10)

Get your passport to creativity! Participants will explore destinations around the world through a variety of mediums, styles and artists. Individual and collaborative activities. Full or half-day programs are available, with different projects offered in the mornings and afternoons.

The Sweet Suite Bakeshop Summer Camp Series (Ages 7-14)

The Sweet Suite Bakeshop will once again host our Mini Camp Series!

This is Session 4/Week 4! 
Dates: July 22nd – July 24th, 2019
Time: 9 AM – 1 PM, daily
Ages: 7-14

Session #4, our Southern Soul!

Day 1: Cake by the Pound! Our students will mix and bake their own mini pound cakes with glaze and fresh fruit!

Day 2: Southern Lemon Blossoms and Mini Old Fashioned Fried Doughnuts

Day 3: SEC Rivalries will help boost our team spirit for our last day of camp with team mini NAILED IT! Challenges!

Camp cost: $160 per student (T-shirt included)
($80 retainer secures spot, with balance due on the first day of camp)

Lunch will be provided on the last day of camp. Students will need to bring their own lunch for the other days. Students will need to arrive in close toe shoes, hair pulled back, and clothing suitable for baking.

Please inform us of any food allergies. **Our kitchen IS NOT a nut free facility.
