This class is for the student who is ready to have fun and learn all about watercolor.

Throughout the duration, this class will go over many different aspects of watercolor processes:
Brush control
Paper quality
Paint application
Wash methods
Atmospheric techniques, and more…

Grab some paint and get ready to have some fun as we learn this exciting medium.

Face your fears! Watercolor is not the monster some of you believe it to be. This fun, but highly structured class will dispel any myths regarding the medium’s “unforgiving” properties. You’ll learn about the materials, various techniques, different methods of mixing & applying color, plus many “tricks & fixes” to bring watercolor painting under your control. Discussions, step by step instructions, & demonstrations by an experienced, award-winning instructor are a large part of this course. You’ll end up taking home several finished paintings & a lot more confidence!

Pen and Ink with Watercolor Wash with Nanette Langner | Aiken Center for the Arts

Complete several small pieces while
learning a variety of techniques for adding shade
and color to drawings.

Previous students can work on

GHIA Watercolor: Summer Still Life

This class will be like a trip to the sea shore. The instructor will provide students with shells, driftwood, and other objects one finds on the beach for which each student will set up their own summer still life to paint. This class will help you build confidence in the application of layering color on color in which to achieve a desired result.

Students will develop an understanding of the medium and how to use basic techniques to achieve various textures in watercolor.

Instruction will be given by a full time watercolorist of over thirty-five years experience on the application of washes, layering, masking, and methods of rendering various textures. A step-by-step approach will provide the foundation needed to achieve exciting results in this medium.

GHIA Watercolor: Summer Landscape

Learn how to capture the beauty of the summer season in transparent watercolor. Students will focus on landscapes featuring sea, surf, and sand.

The class will help you acquire confidence in the application of modern watercolor techniques such as wet into wet washes, graduated washes, and when and how to use masking fluid.

Demonstrations, individual guidance, and a step-by-step approach will provide the foundation needed to achieve exciting results when painting the energy of the sea.
