Aiken Center for the Arts Summer Art Studio (Ages 11-14)

Students will discover art through exploration of their favorite art mediums in a studio setting. Taught by artists working in their area of expertise, full or half-day programs allow participants to try different mediums in the mornings and afternoons.

Week Theme: Textiles and Painting

Textiles: Learn to use a loom to weave functional and decorative art. Work together on a large installation in the main gallery. Explore dying fabrics with natural resources.

Painting: Create colorful paintings of real objects using acrylic paint. Topics include color mixing, color theory, and mark making techniques.

The Sweet Suite Bakeshop Summer Camp Series (Ages 7-14)

The Sweet Suite Bakeshop will once again host our Mini Camp Series!

This is Session 4/Week 4! 
Dates: July 22nd – July 24th, 2019
Time: 9 AM – 1 PM, daily
Ages: 7-14

Session #4, our Southern Soul!

Day 1: Cake by the Pound! Our students will mix and bake their own mini pound cakes with glaze and fresh fruit!

Day 2: Southern Lemon Blossoms and Mini Old Fashioned Fried Doughnuts

Day 3: SEC Rivalries will help boost our team spirit for our last day of camp with team mini NAILED IT! Challenges!

Camp cost: $160 per student (T-shirt included)
($80 retainer secures spot, with balance due on the first day of camp)

Lunch will be provided on the last day of camp. Students will need to bring their own lunch for the other days. Students will need to arrive in close toe shoes, hair pulled back, and clothing suitable for baking.

Please inform us of any food allergies. **Our kitchen IS NOT a nut free facility.

Very Vera Advanced Cooking Camp (Ages 11-14)

July 22-26, 2019 | Monday – Friday | 9 AM – 1 PM | The Cottage (VeryVera Augusta Location)

Advanced class is reserved for our most experienced and skilled chefs who have attended for at least one year and are between the ages of 11 and 14. We will be mastering skills beyond beginner and intermediate in the kitchen along with making every recipe one to remember. Beginning at 9 a.m. and concluding at 1 p.m. each day we will be in preparing 3+ new recipes, gaining hands-on kitchen experience, crafting new ways to decorate and package our fabulous treats, learning a bit more about some of the foods we eat from a natural state, and mastering manners and etiquette to use in an everyday setting.

The class will run Monday through Friday of the designated week, and on Friday children are encouraged to invite one guest. All week the students will be preparing for our Friday Banquet and holding grand party for their special guests showing off all their techniques they mastered throughout the week.

Please have your children wear closed-toe shoes (no sandals) and shirts with sleeves. All long hair will need to be pulled back with a ponytail holder or a rubber band.

Camp recipes could potentially contain any of the following allergens: Milk, Eggs, Fish, Shellfish, Tree Nuts, Peanuts, Wheat, and Soybeans. We will do our best to accommodate your child’s dietary restriction, but there are cases where a camper may be given a separate activity to avoid potential contamination.

We cannot wait for our chefs to join us for big fun so sign up now for your DEPOSIT to ensure that your spot is saved! A balance due will be required 1 month prior to camp starting.

Week Theme: Drawing From Life & Sculpture

Drawing from Life: Learn how to draw from objects using graphite and charcoal, learn advanced shading and drafting techniques to achieve a professional finish to drawings.

Sculpture: Learn 3D art making techniques to create sculptures from wire, paper mache, cardboard, or clay to create original artworks or functional objects.

July 15th – July 19th

Morning/AM Drawing from Life: 9 AM – 12 PM
Afternoon/PM Sculpture: 1 PM – 4 PM
FULL DAY Drawing from Life/Sculpture : 9 AM – 4 PM

FULL DAY Drawing from Life AM/ Art Intensive Painting PM | 9 AM – 4 PM | $350 (per week)

Art intensive courses provide students with advanced level art skills. Receive one-on-one instruction from college professors to help further their art making abilities. (Ages 11 – 18)

Painting: Learn how to paint with oils including color theory, mixing, and blending. Subjects will include still lifes and self portraits.

Day 1: Students will create from scratch churros with strawberry preserve drizzle and fruit salad.

Day 2: French Macaron Day! Students will learn the art of making beautiful French Macarons with Swiss Meringue Buttercream filling.

Day 3: It’s time for International Mad Scientist Day! Using STEM in the process, we will pair students into teams, assign a country, and let them battle it out while completing fun tasks to make yummy treats!
