The Aiken Center for the Arts’ Art & Music Camp for Special Needs Children is designed specially to provide creative and artistic opportunities for children with traumatic brain injuries, cerebral palsy or other physical/cognitive disabilities in Aiken county. It is offered at no cost to the participants. The program’s goal is to provide a creative outlet designed to allow these children the opportunity to have a successful, joyful art experience.
Multi-disciplinary curriculum includes both visual arts and music to optimize creative response, social interaction with other children and adults and positive self esteem. The works of art on exhibit are produced through a process based approach with joyful and stunning results.
Our instructor, Carter Boucher, is a visual artist, writer, and musician. He is an Arts Access SC master artist, an active artist in residence through the South Carolina Arts Commission since 1981, and has extensive experience teaching art to children with disabilities. He reaches each child right where they are.
