Sand Hills Community Center Virtual Summer Youth Program

Ages: Middle School Students  ages 10-14

This year’s theme is “Resiliency.” Campers will explore the meaning of resiliency through the lens of “Still I Rise,” a poem by Maya Angelou.

Program Instructors:

Sala Adenike (Sister Sala): a multi-faceted visual artist who creates through painting, writing, dancing and singing.

Russel Joel Brown, Broadway Actor’s “Project: Inspire” which weaves content from “The Lion King” with valuable life lessons.

En Pointe Plus Dance Mastery Institute partnered with Contemporary Ballet Theatre to produce the culminating event entitled “Rise Up…: Motivation in Motion” inspired by Maya Angelou’s poem, Still I Rise. 

The production will include song, dance, spoken word, literary and visual arts created by the campers as well as photos in addition to videos captures with their devices to show how technology is integrated into their creativity as well as educational process.

Sand Hills Community Center Summer Youth Program

Dates:  June 14-19 & June 21-26
Times: 9am-3pm (M-F) / 11am-1pm (Saturday)
Ages: 10-14 (6th-8th grade)

Karen Brown partners with City of Augusta & Augusta Commission to conduct FREE VIRTUAL 4th Annual Sand Hills Community Center Summer Youth Program where students will experience painting, writing, dancing, singing, spoken word, financial literacy,
athletic training and public speaking workshops.

Throughout the program there will be awards, and prizes. Each student receives an event t-shirt. This two-week program
scheduled June 14-19 and June 21 – 26 will be held Monday through Friday with videotaped culminating events held on Saturday, June 19 and Saturday, June 26, also presented on the Zoom platform. The Zoom link will be provided after registration.
Distribution sites for supplies pick-up (as long as supplies last) will be shared at registration. Instruction and activities are scheduled in blocks of time for each grade level with adequate breaks during the sessions.

The students will be taught by several renowned instructors such as Baruti, Russell Joel Brown, Pepper, Funmi and Karen Brown.

Courses include:
– Modern dance & choreography
– Hip Hop
– Vocal instruction
– “Project: Inspire” (which weaves content from “The Lion King” with valuable life lessons)
– ABC’s of How Money Works
