Annual Dave Day Celebration | Aiken County Historical Museum

Date: July 17, 2021 | Time: 11am | Location: Aiken County Historical Museum

We are so glad to be able to host this event again after missing it for the first time last year. This is a celebration of the life of Edgefield potter, David Drake, also known as Dave the Potter. Bring your children for a lesson in clay working, a fun craft, and a special tour of the pottery hall. This program, generously sponsored by Aiken’s own Major General Irene Trowell-Harris, is free for Aiken County children; register by email at lwalker@aikencountysc.gov.

Times: Appointments Vary; occur in 30-minute increments
Cost: $25

Have you ever wanted to try out the pottery wheel? Here’s your chance to get your hands dirty!

Come throw on the potter’s wheel with the help of our skilled ceramicists! 1 pound of clay will be provided to create the vessel of your choice (ex. bowl, cup, vase, planter, etc.). Next, you will pick colors for you vessel from our palette of glazes. Pots will be left for processing at the studio – they cannot be taken home the same day as they need to be fired and glazed and fired a second time. Your vessel will be microwave and dishwasher safe when ready for pick up in two to three weeks. We will contact you when it is ready.

SIGNING UP FOR TWO? You will need to make two separate but adjacent appointments. There is only one instructor in our studio and this insures your safety and success. Both participants will be allowed to be in the space together but will not be working at the same time. Trust us – it works better for everyone this way.
