Learn the rewards and challenges of Plein Air painting and how it is different from other types of painting. Develop a basic understanding of landscape painting and a way to see the big picture by using the theory of angles while developing an eye for seeing the large masses in the landscape as a way to get started. All levels welcome!

Demonstration will be given during the first class held on the grounds of Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art and other locations will be announced.

Learn the rewards and challenges of Plein Air painting (painting outdoors onsite)and how it is different from other types of painting. Develop a basic understanding of landscape painting and a way to see the big picture by using the theory of angles while developing an eye for seeing the large masses in the landscape as a way to get started.

Class will be instructed by local artist Frank Carstarphen who recently painted this Ware’s Folly in watercolor as seen in the image.

First class will meet OUTDOORS on the grounds of Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art and other outdoors locations will be announced to paint onsite outside.

Please note social distancing and masks are required for safety.
