Cumberland Island: Land, Water, Wind, and Light | Artist Talk & Reception
Date: August 19, 2021| Time: 5pm | Location: The Dome Room, University Hall (Augusta University Summerville Campus)
Augusta University’s Mary S. Byrd Gallery of Art announces Cumberland Island: Land, Water, Wind, and Light
by Christa Bowden, Emily Gomez and Ernesto Gomez
on exhibition August 11 – October 1, 2021 at the Mary S. Byrd Gallery inside Washington Hall
This multi-media exhibition offers the fine art photography by Christa Bowden and Emily Gomez along with the wind drawings and sound installations of Ernesto Gomez.
This on-going collaborative project, which began in 2016 with the celebration of the national park centennial documents the unique biome and history of Cumberland Island. With this project, the artists hope to expand the existing documentation of Cumberland Island to increase awareness of its significance and fragility and provide a record for future generations, should the island be lost or irrevocably altered due to climate change or other threats. Through their photographs, wind drawings, and sound collages record the diversity of the island’s ecosystem.
