Gertrude Herbert Art Camps – Afternoon Session 1 (Ages 5-14)

The Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art runs multiple camps over the summer!
In the list below you will find 3 AFTERNOON camps that run from June 10th to June 14th, 2019 from 1 PM to 3 PM each day.
All classes take place at The Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art, on 506 Telfair Street.

PM Session 1: Clay Play (Ages 5-7)
Clay Play and Ceramics: Students will work with clay and air dry materials to create a variety of tiles, relief, and/or sculptural works.

PM Session 1: Paint Explosion (Ages 8-9)
Students will look at many examples of artists and their work for an inspirational starting point and then see what kind of creations their imaginations can dream up. Students will use nontraditional painting methods to create one of a kind pieces of art in new and inventive ways…all while focusing on the June Theme: History of Art. This could get messy!

Let’s Move (early drop off): $20 (all ages 5 -14) 9:10 AM – 10 AM
50 Minutes of morning stretching, Yoga, and/or free drawing time each day before our official classes get started. (price covers one week M-F session add on)

Lunch Break: $20 /or FREE when signed up for Full Day Morning and Afternoon Classes (all ages 5 -14) 12 PM – 1 PM
Sack lunch and relaxation time in our historic formal dining room. Students must bring their own sack lunch, food is not provided. Free movie time included during lunch break. **This add on is FREE for all students signed up for morning and afternoon class sessions /Full Day Classes. (price covers one week M-F session add on)

Free Form (late pick up): $15 (all ages 5 -14) 3 PM- 3:30 PM
Afternoon Stretching, Yoga, and/or free drawing time each day after our official classes end. (price covers one week M-F session add on)

Tire City Summer Clay Camp (Ages 9 – 13

Tire City Potters is proud to announce we will be hosting a summer camp this upcoming 2019 season. We will offer half and full day camp cycles for a 5 day camp. Aspiring potters, kids who love to create, build and get messy from ages 9-13 are invited to come learn about the ceramic process and various techniques to manipulate clay. Children attending need to be able to respond to instruction and be mindful of safety precautions given (Liability form will be provided). Our camp will feature an appropriate number of activities for half day campers and full day campers. The campers will learn how to prep clay, coil build, slab build and sculpt. As well as how to use the potters wheel, glaze, and even be a part of the firing process! See itinerary below. We ask that parents bring their children in clothes/shoes that can get messy. Also, please pack your little camper snacks, lunch, and water to stay hydrated.

There will be a $45 deposit for every camper and the additional amount of campers fee will be expected the first day of camp.

Glazing Days will be provided to finish campers work.
Clay pieces must be properly dried, fired and washed before glazing.
We will provide 4 total glazing days that any camper may attend.

Wednesday Pottery on the Wheel (GHIA Adult Class)

Wednesdays | April 24th – June 12th, 2019 | 6 PM – 8:30 PM | Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art

Instructor: Carey Mogianesi

Students will explore ceramic wheelwork techniques in this class. Instruction will be tailored to the individual skill level of each student. Using the wheel as a tool, forms will be thrown, altered and assembled to create various functional vessels of various shapes and forms. Glazing techniques will also be addressed. The supply fee covers 22 ½ pounds of clay, tools, glazes and firing. Students must provide a clean towel each week.

Classes at Wild Hare Pottery (Adult)

Tuesdays | 8 Weeks | 2 Class Times | April 2nd – May 21st, 2019 | Wild Hare Pottery

Wild Hare Pottery will begin a new session of classes on April 2nd!

These pottery classes are for folks with all levels of experience, including zero! Both handbuilding and wheel throwing techniques are taught by David Stuart who has taught for over 40 years. Classes are conducted in a relaxed, informal atmosphere. Stoneware decorating, glazing and firing methods will be covered. The last class includes a Raku firing.

The day class meets from 10:30 AM  to 12:30 PM and the evening class meets from 7 PM  to 9 PM, both lasting for 8 Tuesdays.
The cost is $120+$25 /25 lbs of clay. All levels of experience are welcome!

Mad Potters Organization Spring Sale

March 18th, 19th & 20th, 2019 | 9 AM – 4:30 PM | Augusta University Summerville Campus

It’s time once again for the MPO’s Spring Semester Pottery Sale. The MPO, or Mad Potters Organization, is the student-led pottery guild of the Augusta University Department of Art. These students will be selling their own work, which includes plates, cups, bowls, vases, and other decorative or functional ceramic pieces. Look for the white tent on the lawn outside the JSAC on the Summerville campus. The sale runs March 18-20, each day from 9:00 am-4:30 pm!
