Thursday, September 7th || 7 – 9 p.m. || The Maxwell Theatre
This performance explores the love and life of a woman through two song cycles that are set almost 200 years apart from one another. Frauen-Liebe und Leben is a popular song cycle by German Romantic composer Robert Schumann chronicling the relationship of a couple from the perspective of the woman from their meeting, courtship, marriage, through her husband’s death and after. at first sight, a modern-day Frauen-Liebe und Leben of sorts, is a newly written and composed song cycle recounting a similar arc from the woman’s perspective infused with the realities of what it means to love a black man in modern-day America.
