Shots in Back: Exhuming The 1970 Augusta Riot, hosted and written by JNSA faculty member, former NPR Reporter and Journalist, Sea Stachura.

This three part, online video series continues tonight, Monday, September 28th at 7pm, by outlining the events of the 1970 Augusta Riot.

In this second of a series of virtual listening events, historian and author of the book, Lighting the Fires of Freedom: African American Women in The Civil Rights Movement, Dr. Janet Dewart Bell and international performing artist Damien Sneed will join Niki Haris in a conversation focused on the events of the riot and the six black men killed by white police officers.

Special thank you to Historian, Corey Rogers of the Lucy Craft Laney Museum of African American History and the 1970 Augusta Riot Observance committee. Through their work, a commemorative marker will be placed at the Augusta Municipal Building at 535 Telfair Street at 1pm Today, Monday, September 28th. The Grady Abrams Retrospective Art show will also be hosted on the first floor of the Augusta Municipal Building.
