Join the City of Augusta and The Greater Augusta Arts Council on February 6th from 1:00 to 3:00 PM for the official Augusta Sculpture Trail Ribbon Cutting on The Augusta Common at Reynolds Street!
Speakers include Mayor Hardie Davis; Bennish Brown with the Augusta Convention and Visitors Bureau; Commissioner Sean Frampton; Brenda Durant, Executive Director of the Greater Augusta Arts Council; Margaret Woodard, Downtown Development Authority; and Emcee Jay Markwalter from the Georgia Convention and Visitors Bureau. A special Otocast Augusta Sculpture Trail mobile App activity will be unveiled, where participants can earn a unique badge for visiting all 10 sculptures on the Trail. Music will be provided by Karen Gordon, and live painting by local artist Billy S.
The sculptures have been placed at intervals in downtown Augusta that make for a fun and easy to explore outdoor walking trail. Several sculptures are located along Broad Street, four are on the Augusta Common, and two have been placed at the Riverwalk 8th Street Bulkhead. The top ten sculptures were selected from over a hundred submissions from around the country and the pieces will remain a part of the Sculpture Trail for two years. Sculpture Trail activities are being planned for the community.
The digital walking tour produced by Otocast can be accessed from any mobile device and will help visitors learn specifics about each work of art while they explore the Augusta Sculpture Trail. It will include a variety of fun mobile activities for all ages, that will be added over the two year installation time.
