FROM KOREA, WITH LOVE
Join us for May’s FIELD Art Friday with Augusta native Troy Campbell. This show promises to be enlightening and engaging, and those of us who know Troy (and those who don’t) will have a unique opportunity to connect with him from afar.
Labeling himself a “very proud Augusta boy,” Troy has always been active in the local art scene. Currently teaching in Jeonju, South Korea, Troy’s Asian influenced paintings in this exhibit were all made from Korean materials.
From afar, Troy will present his collection of work of Korean magpies, which he started painting while stationed there in the early 2000’s. Unlike their British counterparts, ?? “kkatchi” are seen as good luck and known for possessing great memories and for the ability to grieve. The artist seeks to have these beautiful birds remind us of what is good in the world, and give the viewer something to smile at.
Artwork will be available for sale. Troy is generously donating 25% of sales to the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art.
Troy Campbell has a BFA in Studio Art from Augusta College and an MA in International Studies from Texas State University, and has studied at the Vermont Studio Center.
