About the artist:
Shawn Johnson was born in Kinderhook, NY and grew up in Columbia, SC. She currently resides in Martinez, GA with her roommate Melissa, and her four fur-kids, Max, Sheena, Noodles, and Binx. She studied various forms of art throughout her high school years, including photography, print making, painting (acrylic, oil, and watercolor), pottery, and pencil sketching. Shawn attended Miller Motte Technical College and received her cosmetology certification in 2012. This career choice provided an opportunity in which she could apply her love of art while also growing as an entrepreneur. She spends most of her time at Undertone Salon & Co., creating intricate nail art designs for her clientele.
This art show was the perfect opportunity for Shawn to step out of her comfort zone of nail art and create new works on a much larger scale! “Dude! An Excellent Adventure” is a visual representation of Shawn’s journey back to the art roots of her teenage years and her long-forgotten love of acrylic on canvas. Many of the pieces featured are inspired by her love of the 1980’s, both the pop art and the music that are iconic of the decade. She hopes that viewers will gain an insight not only into what inspires her, but also their own connections to the subject matter of her pieces, based on their personal experiences with 80’s culture. Regardless of age, Shawn hopes the experience will provide viewers with a visual adventure, full of nostalgia for a decade long past.
