Auditions for the contemporary mystery “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time” will be held on Sunday, August 5th and Tuesday, August 7th at 7:00 PM in the Bechtel Experimental Theater at ACP.
This Tony Award Best Play winner was adapted by Simon Stevens from Mark Haddon’s best-selling novel by the same name. The story concerns a mystery surrounding the death of a neighbor’s dog that is investigated by Christopher Boone, a young man who suffers from Autism Spectrum Disorder.
A cast of five men and five women are required for the production. The ensemble actors play multiple roles, including neighborhood characters, commuters, policemen, and a station guard among others. Some cast members will need to be able to stoop, rise from the stage floor, and assist in group lifts of the main character. The play-within-a-play nature of the script will require a longer than usual rehearsal period. In addition, all auditioners should be aware that the play contains adult language and content.
The play will be presented October 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, and 27 on the main stage.
The show requires extensive props work. Those interested in running a production prop department will have an excellent learning opportunity on “Curious Incident …”
Video and sound design volunteers will also find a real creative challenge on this production.
Characters in the play are:
Christopher John Francis Boone (15-year old maths-genius detective);
Ed Boone (Father);
Judy Boone (Mother);
Siobhan (School mentor)
