(and graduation celebration)

Make a point to mark your calendars!
This fine art exhibition will only be on display for one evening.

Artist Statement:
My work includes figurative self-portraits, interiors, and the exploration of subjectivity in relation to time and space. In my figurative work, I paint in shapes created by heavily cast shadows to create a unified figure. The title of my show, Aberrant Reflections, speaks to my time spent reflecting in the spaces depicted in my interior work. It also points to the use of geometric shapes that embody mirrors, shadows, and reflections in order to display the passing of time in a single composition. Through these approaches, I reflect on my personal experiences as well as the unconscious mind and its influence in my life.

About the artist:
Kara Mitton is an artist from North Augusta, South Carolina, who has been drawing and painting her whole life. In 2014, Mitton began her creative college career at Augusta University in Augusta, Georgia. Her creative endeavors took her to Columbia, South Carolina in 2016. Mitten’s work has appeared in group shows throughout Augusta and Columbia. In May of 2018, she will graduate from the University of South Carolina with a BFA in Painting. This is her second solo exhibition.
