25th Annual Blind Willie Blues Festival
May 5 @ 11:00 am - 10:00 pm$30 – $40
Gates open at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5, for the 25th annual Blind Willie Blues Festival. Music starts at noon at the festival grounds at 1021 Stagecoach Road Northeast, Thomson, one mile north off Exit 172 off Interstate 20.
The one-day roots-and-blues music festival honors Thomson’s Blind Willie McTell, an early 20th century pioneer on the 12-string guitar whose influence extends to a wide range of today’s top musicians.
This year’s roster includes Oklahoma’s J D McPherson, bringing a combo sound rooted in the rock ‘n’ roll, rockabilly, and rhythm and blues music of the 1950s.
McPherson’s 2017 release “Undivided Heart and Soul,” was included in “Rolling Stone’s” list of the best 40 Americana releases of 2017; and “Guitar World” ranked it in the Top 10 Roots albums of last year.
Joining McPherson will be guitarist/vocalist Samantha Fish, Louisiana’s Kenny Neal, Amy Helm of Woodstock, N.Y., Georgia’s Randall Bramblett and the country blues of Jerron “Blind Boy “Paxton.
Tickets are $30 advance at blindwillie.com and $40 the day of with ages 12 and under admitted free.
