National Train Day

National Train Day is an annual event celebrating the anniversary of the driving of the golden spike in Promontory, Utah, marking the completion of the first transcontinental railroad in the United States in May 1869. The 2,000-mile engineering feat joined a nation and changed the world.
These days, most of us complain about the trains delaying our journey about town. But Augusta trains used to be celebrated – prized and praised for bringing presidents, war heroes, baseball teams and Northern tourists to town. The Augusta Museum of History invites everyone to celebrate Augusta’s train legacy on Sunday, May 15.
