Historic Marker for Frank Yerby to be Unveiled

Thursday, March 16th || 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. || Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History

The Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History, in partnership with the Haines Alumni Association, Paine College and the Georgia Historical Society will unveil the state historic marker for Frank Yerby. The marker will be located near the corner of 8th and Hall Streets (off of Laney-Walker Boulevard). Join us on March 16th as we pay tribute to our native son who was an international literary giant.

Frank Yerby was born in Augusta on September 5, 1916. He graduated from the Haines Normal and Industrial Institute in 1933, Paine College in 1937 and Fisk University in 1938. During the
course of his literary career, he published 33 novels, 12 of which became New York Times bestsellers. He sold an estimated 60 million copies of his books, which were translated into dozens of languages. Three of his books, The Foxes of Harrow, The Golden Hawk and The Saracen Blade were turned into major motion pictures. He died in Madrid, Spain on November 30, 1991. Frank Yerby was inducted into the Georgia Writers Hall of Fame in 2006.
