Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art Summer Camp | Session 4 | July 11-July 15
July 15, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Come experience different materials and learn new processes while making fun art! Students will be “Diving into Art History” learning about artists from art history and creating works inspired by them. Choose from ceramics, sculpture, painting, mixed media, 2D design, and 3D design morning and/or afternoon sessions. Students may bring a bagged lunch if they sign up for both a morning and afternoon session during the same week.

Times:
Morning camp classes – 10:00am to 12:00pm
Afternoon camp classes – 1:00pm to 3:00pm

Classes Offered:
CERAMICS | AGES 5-7 | 10:00am-12:00pm
Create pieces with air dry clay and other materials to create functional and sculptural works. Students will learn handbuilding skills and enjoy using a variety of mixed media to complete unique works.

PAINTING | AGES 8-9 | 10:00am-12:00pm
Explore fun painting processes and application. Studio exploration of a variety of paint, brush styles, and non traditional tools will allow students to develop an understanding of the different qualities of the materials and how they can use them effectively. The Color Wheel will inspire mixing and curating color palettes to match the mood and subject of works created in class.

3D DESIGN | AGES 10-11 | 10:00am-12:00pm
Connect with the many possibilities of turning ordinary materials into 3D works. Learn the basics of three dimensional design and the process of developing ideas into art that can be viewed from all sides. Students will be guided through additive and subtractive sculptural methods, working with traditional and non traditional materials, and having fun connecting with their imagination.

2D DESIGN | AGES 5-7| 1:00pm to 3:00pm
Mark making fun explored through a variety of 2D art materials. Experiment with different media on paper and other surfaces. Students will explore both non-objective and realistic artistic interpretation of subject matter while learning new application techniques. This session is a great opportunity for young artists to find out what media sparks their creative spirit the most.

SCULPTURE | AGES 8-9 | 1:00pm to 3:00pm
Students will work with a variety of inspired media that may include everything from natural materials to recyclables while developing new skills through sculptural methods. Come experience the process of taking an idea on paper and bringing it to life within a three dimensional space.

MIXED MEDIA | AGES 10-11 | 1:00pm to 3:00pm
Let’s mix it all up and and see what happens when you put unexpected combinations of materials and/or images together. Take your painting, collage and mixed media skills to the next level and learn how to mix, layer, and combine materials in a thoughtful way to express yourself.
