The Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History Presents ‘The Women of a New Tribe Exhibition’
March 6 @ 9:00 am - March 31 @ 5:00 pmFree - $7
The Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History in partnership with the Augusta Chapter of the Links, Inc. are excited to announce the opening of a dynamic photographic exhibition at the Laney Museum, “The Women of a New Tribe” by photographer Jerry Taliaferro from Charlotte, North Carolina. The exhibition is open to the public March 6 – 31st.
In June 2002, “The WOMEN OF A NEW TRIBE” project premiered at the Afro-American Cultural Center in Charlotte NC. Since that time the exhibit has traveled to multiple cities, where local women have been photographed to be included in the exhibition. Most of the women chosen to take part in this project were selected for the contributions they made to their communities. They are teachers, businesswomen, volunteers, activists, homemaker, wives, mothers and grandmothers. Over the years, the” WOMEN OF A NEW TRIBE” project has grown to include thousands of images of women from across America. The constant input of new images has transformed the project from a simple collection of images, to a living mosaic of the modern Black American Woman.
